In my first post I mentioned I would be sharing some of my favourite winter outfits with you, so this is the first of the series #GracaWinterLooks .You know how they say every woman needs at least one black dress? Well, I have about 5 black dresses ..different types of course. The fitted, figure hugging ones, shift dresses and loose fitting ones. I love black dresses because of their simplicity and how they can look elegant and sophisticated in their simplicity. I also love how I can play around with different items of clothing and accessories adding them to the black dress.

Here is my first black dress story.. For most of my childhood I didn’t own too many dresses. I was such a tom boy and kind of hated dresses. As I got older and got more comfortable being me, I started loving them. The first black dress I ever bought was for my leavers dinner (matric dance/prom) a few years ago, I won’t say which year lol. Anywayyyy, it was a halter neck type dress with lace on the hem. I still have that dress around somewhere, if I ever find it I will share some pictures 🙂. I first wore it with simple earrings and beautiful black high heels with diamante all over them that my dad had bought for me, they were gorgeous. I got my make up done, sprayed half a bottle of perfume and left for the dance. I couldn’t believe I could look beautiful like that in a dress. It was lovely.

I took time to ask ladies on my Twitter and Facebook 3 questions which were :

1. Do you own a “simple” or “plain” black dress; if yes, what kind of dress is it?

2. How does it fit: is it well fitted, figure hugging, loose fitting?

3. How do you feel when you wear the dress or dresses?

I was quite amazed at the responses. I didn’t think I would get too many but surprise! lol I love surprises. The responses were beautiful. I am going to share some of those responses with you. If you would still like to share some of your responses please feel free to do so in the comments section below. If you’d like to share some of your photos in your black dresses with me simply drop me an email and I will share them right here! Don’t be shy please lol.

@Fuchsiaristic – The black dress is timeless. I have a plain one and not too short and not too body hugging. I feel extremely elegant. With flats or heels I know it’s working.

@ladySTATURE – The black dress is the most convenient and stylish thing ever!

@PhroeticBae- I have about 8, mixture of formal and cute and sexy. I feel pretty unstoppable in them.

@shami_official – They are my favourite items in my closet. I feel sexy and very feminine whenever I wear them.

@Miss_Masaya – I love black because it’s easiest to wear and slimming. Black goes everywhere with the right accessories. Black is my confidence. I have mostly fitted and tailored black dresses. Super versatile for work. Then I have a few shift dresses too.

@nok2lah – I have a loosely fitted one. I feel sexy in it when I team it up with heels.

@maya_maya_x – I have well fitted ones and a flowy one. I feel great when I wear them

Sipho – It’s well fitted. Probably the one item of clothing I own I’m most comfortable in. Black hides alot.

Stella- Mine is fitted but stretchy. Very comfortable, it works with anything.

Esther Carine – I do! It’s fitted, short sleeved with a low back and goes just below my knees. I love it, I wear it so much so just letting it rest now. I feel confident and amazing when I wear it.

Sitha- I have a fitted midi one, my first design. When I wear it I feel like I can conquer anything for it shows my “CEO” side. that’s one dress I can wear over and over without being tired but I can’t wear it everyday.

Gugu – Yea have a tight short one and a “first lady” looking one with pleats and knee length, feel good in both.

Ratidzo- Yes I have a simple black dress. Fits well at the top and flows right below and it is not figure hugging. Love it because it does not hold onto the parts I want to hide, so I’m comfy. Yes it’s right above the knees

Tee – I have a couple of them as black is my fave colour. I can dress up or down. I can add any accessory of any colour, add a shirt, sneakers, heels and any combo turns out perfectly and I look smaller.

It’s evident from the responses from these beautiful ladies that we all feel very good and confident when we wear our black dresses. We can make black dresses work with anything, be it accessories, heels or sneakers. I’d like to thank the ladies for participating and allowing me to use their responses for this post, I hope I get to see some of your pictures in your black dresses.

I am a lover of accessories and recently I have fallen in love with statement necklaces. I kept it real simple and wore a black dress with a beautiful statement neck piece.  Winter isn’t over yet and so I added a faux leather jacket  to keep the chill out. I feel like a rockstar when I have my faux leather jacket on lol, so awesome! The faux leather jacket is a winter favourite because it basically goes well with any outfit. I’m loving the fringed bag and wish I could carry it with every single outfit…oh wait, I can! ha! But I have to switch it up you know, keep it interesting! Keep it 100!

I had to throw in a selfie as a bonus 🙂
