Hello beautiful ones of the Most High! I hope you are all well and had a great weekend. It’s a hot afternoon in Johannesburg *twirls*. Yes! Winter is finally over and I feel like we skipped spring and slid right into summer. I am not complaining . There are some exciting projects I have lined up for summer and I cannot wait to start sharing them with you. Some of you may be wondering why I have been so quiet on the blog…well life happened but I am back!
So today is Monday and it’s time to meet our Monday Male Feature for this week.
Hi Male Feature …..tell us something about yourself
My Name is Tafadzwa or Irvine…. People tend to call me Taffy or Irvine depending on their mood. I am 27 year of age and currently based in Melbourne, Australia.
I am presently a Law student, though; I am a qualified Teacher as well. In terms of interests, I appreciate a lot of things to be honest! I shall name a few of my interests though;
1. I love sports and presently invested emotionally and mentally into the US Open. Venus is my girl at the moment whilst Serena is busy being a mom.
2. I appreciate music festivals and have attended a couple. Music is something that is an integral aspect of my life and I casually work for a Music review blog. My favorite Album this year without doubt SZA’s debut album.
3. I do read books here and there, currently reading ‘ Whiskey Words & Shovel’ by r.h Sin
4. Presently working on my Foundation called EduVine, which is aims to provide access to education to every individual in the world.
Ah, nice! How would you describe your style?
I believe my fashion style is very ‘diverse’ and ‘all over the place’ as I like to experiment with looks depending on my mood. I try to find the balance between new school fashion, old school fashion and ‘futuristic’ fashion. I aspire to attain a ‘dandified hipster’ look every time I step out of the house ‘not too casual’ and ‘not too formal’. My wardrobe comprises of a vast selection of clothing pieces but two items you would struggle to find in my wardrobe are perhaps ‘hoodies’ and ‘ sweat’ pants as I attempt to avoid sporty clothes or to some degree ‘street wear’ not as exactly sure why…
I do not believe I dress very ‘functional’ as I am continuously ‘overdressed’ most of the time, as I believe I pay tremendous attention to detail and am a very eccentric being by nature.
What or who inspires or influences your style?
I think whatever is occurring around me influences my style to be honest. Mood is a fundamental driver in determining what I put on at any given time. To some extent, you can tell how exultant or despondent I am by the clothes I am wearing at any given day. They are to some extent, a person diary, and the same way musicians write songs; I use my clothes as a form of expression. I do not necessarily buy heaps of clothes per se but I mix and match the items I have already to mirror how I am feeling occasionally. I wish I could name drop individuals but I certainly do not have an individual I look up to daily for inspiration when it comes to fashion.
The one thing every man should have….
I have copped a plethora of criticism for my fashion choices over the years… ‘Too feminine looking’ or ‘Too peculiar’ but I have not permitted this background noise to influence my fashion choices. Individuals are all entitled to our own opinion but that does not mean that their opinion is valid. I believe that one should be confident and assertive in oneself as this permits one to express oneself liberally and unreservedly. Stick to your own convictions!
“Self-love is really a foundation for everything, and however you practice or express that is so, so important.”
– Solange Knowles
Unfortunately males, particularly black males have enormous barriers to overcome when it comes to ‘toxic masculinity’ and ‘machoism’ thus I can understand why certain black males might be hesitant and cautious about experimenting with fashion in general. This was evident with the backlash Jayden Smith received for his Lois Vuitton campaign; I believe it was because people did not know what an uninhibited, liberated and free black male looked like. Society was/is not prepared for males to explore and express themselves freely.
All I can tell you is FOR you to do YOU.. Individuals like to project their insecurities on others. I say, project your awesomeness and march on. Truthfully, do not sit in your own shadow and burn away any facet of yourself that makes you… YOU…. because of the opinion of other individuals. Be like Prince; Be like Lenny Kravitz. Be a Rebel Heart.
“You’ll learn, as you get older, that rules are made to be broken. Be bold enough to live life on your terms, and never, ever apologize for it. Go against the grain, refuse to conform, take the road less travelled instead of the well-beaten path. Laugh in the face of adversity, and leap before you look. Dance as though everybody is watching. March to the beat of your own drummer. And stubbornly refuse to fit in.”
― Mandy Hale
What are some of your closet favourites?
I believe they are an imperative component to an outfit. I like to have a pretty diversified range of them in my closet. I think you are as ‘fly’ as your scent. My most recent addition to my collection has been ‘La Nuit De L’homme Cologne’ by YVES SAINT LAURENT. It is pretty dope!
Simple shower gents can achieve all that as well….
